BIKEMINDED LAUNCHES AN EXCITING SUMMER PROGRAMME OF CYCLING TOURS IN KENSINGTON AND CHELSEA

Bikeminded, the cycling campaign run by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea has announced its summer programme of themed cycling tours aimed at getting more people on their bikes to discover the secret haunts and history of the borough. The tours will bring the streets to life through film, music and the adventures of Alice in Wonderland.

To coincide with the launch in mid April of Bikeminded’s film competition, Bike Cycle Shorts, the summer cycle season gears into action with its Film Tour, commencing on Saturday 14 April with a morning session for bloggers and journalists and a public tour in the afternoon. There are six further public tours on Saturday 28th April, 12th and 26th May.

The film tour will explore the borough’s rich film history by visiting locations made famous through the screen, from crime films such as 1950s Blue Lamp through to spy thriller James Bond.

Throughout the summer, music lovers can also peddle back in time by joining a magical musical mystery cycling tour of the borough via the legendary hang-outs of hippie and rock stars of the 60s, punks and reggae artists of the 70s, synth pop-stars of the 80s and contemporary musicians of today. Bikeminded’s Music Tour starts with a journalist and blogger event on Thursday 3rd May, with six further public tours on Saturday 5th May, 9th June and 7th July.

Finally for those keen to freewheel into fantasy land, Bikeminded’s summer cycle season finishes with its Alice in Wonderland Tour. An immersive and interactive theatre experience on two wheels, the White Rabbit and Alice will weave a journey through the park spaces and hidden corners of the borough. As part of RBKC’s InTRANSIT festival there will be six tours in July from Wednesday 18th through to Sunday 22nd.

Councillor Paget-Brown, Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea says:

"We are delighted to announce such an exciting and varied Bikeminded summer cycling tour programme, which we hope will appeal to people in the borough and beyond, and encourage them to join us in experiencing the pleasures of cycling.  We are lucky to live and work in such a vibrant and cultural part of London, and through these cycling tours we aim to bring our streets and their stories alive through film, music and theatre.  There’s no better way of experiencing the sights and sounds of Kensington and Chelsea than on two wheels, and this summer we want everyone to get involved."
